Student Internship

The Hopkins Police Department provides an opportunity for interns to gain valuable experience in a law enforcement setting. The program includes assisting patrol officers in day-to-day functions, assisting Investigations, participating in community outreach initiatives, and learning the processes of Records and Police Liaison divisions.​

Duties and Responsibilities

As a student intern you will:

  • Complete various tasks and projects in a timely manner with a high attention to detail
  • Actively participate in community outreach initiatives and program
  • Interact with members of the department and public.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for a student internship you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen, or an adult lawfully residing in the United States with approval from I.CE. to work here with the ability to become a United States citizen by the expected time of appointment to the position
  • Have a valid Minnesota driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal background check. 

Duration and Time Commitment

The internship runs from May to August and consists of approximately 200 hours. Hours can be modified to fit specific criteria.
