Dog License

The City of Hopkins requires that your dog have a license as soon as it is six months old. A dog with a valid license from another jurisdiction must obtain a Hopkins’ license within three months. Proof of spaying or neutering, a rabies tag number, and an expiration date of a rabies tag must be shown before a license is issued. View Hopkins City Code Chapter 6 (PDF).

Benefits

Licenses are inexpensive, easy to get, and good for your dog. If your dog is lost, a City license helps to locate the owners. A license also ensures that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies.

License Period and Pricing

Under no circumstances can the license period extend beyond the expiration date of the rabies vaccination. Exceptions to the license fee will be made for service dogs if proper paperwork is provided. City Hall will contact you when your license is set to expire.
