Studio West Art Tour is September 14, 15

The Friends of the Hopkins Center for the Arts is excited to present Studio West Art Tour, an early autumn ramble through the art studios and creative spaces of Minneapolis’ western metropolitan communities on September 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and September 15 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tour-goers will enjoy a self-guided experience exploring new territories of art-making, discovering both fresh talent and the latest work by established favorites. 33 artists will be participating, with 10 new artists included this year, displaying their talent at 12 sites in Hopkins, Minnetonka, Deephaven, and Wayzata. Mediums represented include ceramics, jewelry, painting, photography, drawing, textiles and fibers. Find more information about the Studio West Art Tour.


Free Brush Pick-Up is Week of September 16

The City will be picking up brush free of charge for residential garbage customers the same day as your garbage day the week of September 16. No call-in is required for the free pick-up. Learn more about brush pick-up requirements on the City website.


Bulk Item Drop-Off Event is September 27, 28

Broken grill taking up space in the garage? Old microwave in the basement you need to toss? The fall bulk drop-off event for all City of Hopkins residents is Friday, September 27, from 3 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, September 28, from 9 a.m. to noon. For $20, plus taxes, you can drop off one appliance and up to three cubic yards worth of trash (the equivalent of one pick-up truck load). Additional appliances are $20, plus taxes, each. Find more information about the drop-off event.


Community Photo Contest Now Open

Calling all photographers! The City of Hopkins 2024 Photo Contest will take submissions through Sunday, September 22. The finalists will be posted to the City's Facebook page where voting will take place Wednesday, September 25 through Wednesday, October 2. Winning photos will be displayed along the Artery, featured in the City's Annual Report, City publications, and posted to the City’s website and social media accounts. Now Hiring: Part-Time Somali Speaking 
Community Connector

The City of Hopkins is seeking a part-time Somali speaking Community Connector to help build a stronger relationship between the East African community and local government. This position will be an ongoing commitment of eight hours per week at $20/hour, which will include regular office hours with the community and every other week check-ins with City staff. This position is likely to be a mix of regular business hours and night and weekend work. The ideal candidate has established relationships with East African residents in Hopkins and is comfortable bridging relationships between these groups and the City. Learn more and apply online.
